David Schaefer was a 22-year-old Rosen College of Hospitality Management student who loved the industry, golf and had a promising future.聽 Tragically, his life was taken in an auto accident on October 4, 2010.

David 麻豆精品 S檚 father, Mark, worked closely with Rosen College and the UCF Foundation to produce the David Schaefer Memorial Golf Tournament.聽 The commemorative event was held June 2, 2011, David 麻豆精品 S檚 birthday, at the Shingle Creek Golf Club in Orlando, Florida.

The sold-out tournament generated over $35,000 that will support the new David Benjamin Schaefer Memorial Endowed Scholarship Fund.

Matt Schaefer, David 麻豆精品 S檚 older brother, said that scholarships will be available next school year. 麻豆精品 S淚t will be a pretty substantial amount for one or two students the first year and then will, hopefully, build from there, 麻豆精品 S he said.聽 Matt is pursuing his Master 麻豆精品 S檚 degree in Hospitality & Tourism Management at the Rosen College.

Various members of the Rosen College family supported the event, including the student chapters of the Future Theme Park Leaders Association and Eta Sigma Delta.

Student Restaurant Concept Wins Award /news/student-restaurant-concept-wins-award/ Wed, 18 May 2011 11:09:46 +0000 /news/?p=23905 Rosen College of Hospitality Management students Matt Schaefer and Kyle Roach recently placed fourth in the 8th Annual Joust Business Plan Tournament.聽 This premier student competition is hosted by the (CEI), located in the College of Business Administration.

Schaefer is a graduate student pursuing his master 麻豆精品 S檚 degree in Hospitality & Tourism Management and Roach is an undergraduate Hospitality Management major.聽 The duo pitched the concept for Dave 麻豆精品 S檚 Market, a tribute to聽David Schaefer, a Rosen College student who was killed in an automobile accident in October 2010. The mission of the project is to provide a well thought out and profitable restaurant that incorporates David 麻豆精品 S檚 passion for cuisine, as well as good times with good friends.

Over 30 teams applied to compete, and Schaefer and Roach successfully made it to the Joust Finals where they went up against three student entrepreneur groups.聽 Each team had 15 minutes to present their company to the judges, followed by a 10-minute question and answer session, in front of approximately 100 attendees.

Schaefer shares, 麻豆精品 S淚t was an unforgettable experience that provided information on the restaurant industry that [Kyle and I] never would have unveiled. 麻豆精品 S澛 He hopes that more Rosen College students will participate in next year 麻豆精品 S檚 Joust.

Creator of Study Aid Wins Joust Competition /news/just-in-time-for-finals-creator-of-study-aid-wins-joust-competition/ Mon, 18 Apr 2011 19:52:30 +0000 /news/?p=22890 Ace Glenn, creator of聽Better Ways To Study, LLC, took home $10,000 and a one-year virtual membership to the UCF Technology Incubator as winner of the 8th Annual Joust Business Plan Competition.

The senior finance major pitched his company to a panel of five judges. His product helps students prepare for exams more effectively through the use of visual and SMS-based representations of the study material.

Approximately 100 attendees viewed the event which was hosted by the Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation, located in the College of Business Administration.

Glenn, along with the three other student entrepreneur groups that made it to the Joust finals, had 15 minutes to present their company to the judges, followed by a 10-minute question and answer session.

Other winners included:

  • Second Place ($5,000):聽Daniel Seeff for his product聽Free In A Box, a marketing conduit, that links businesses directly to their student target market by offering free promotional materials.
  • Third Place ($3,000):聽Nick Frazier,听Stephanie Gibbs 补苍诲听Cesar Abueg for their product聽Oh My Groceries, a web-based service that provides subscribers with a weekly grocery list that combines local grocers 麻豆精品 S specials with current manufacturers 麻豆精品 S coupons to provide maximum savings.
  • Fourth Place ($2,000):聽Matt Schaefer 补苍诲听Kyle Roach 蹿辞谤听Dave’s Market, a tribute to聽David Schaefer, a UCF student who was killed in an automobile accident this past October.
