UCF’s Center for Community Schools and Child Welfare Innovation\u00a0recently\u00a0honored\u00a0Sen. David Simmons as a champion of community schools\u00a0for the state of Florida.<\/p>\n
Leaders from the center and\u00a0College of Health and Public Affairs recognized Simmons at\u00a0the Sept. 25 board meeting\u00a0of the\u00a0Children’s Home Society of Florida in Orlando. CHSF and UCF\u00a0partnered to help\u00a0establish Evans High School in\u00a0Pine Hills\u00a0as the first community school of its kind the state.<\/p>\n
Center Director David Bundy, former president of\u00a0CHSF,\u00a0thanked Simmons for his\u00a0support of proposals in 2014 and 2015\u00a0to establish the center and award the state’s\u00a0first\u00a0community-school planning grants. The Legislature\u00a0funded\u00a0both proposals<\/a>.<\/p>\n
